What is the best age for a newborn photo shoot? The best time for the session is the first two weeks of our baby’s life. However, over the years of gaining experience working with newborns, I am able to do a newborn session even if the baby is 4-5 weeks old. However, you should take into account the possibility that such a session may take a little longer. Also, sometimes not all positions will be achievable. For my part, I will do my best to create wonderful photos that will stay with you for years.
When to arrange a newborn photo shoot?
It is best to make an appointment for a newborn session before delivery. My calendar is quite booked around whole year, probably if you contact me after giving birth I will not have any free spot avivable.
When we know the approximate date of delivery and it has been around 3 months until birth, it is worth contacting me and pre-booking the date of the session. Of course, some little ones come into the world later, some earlier, so I set the final date of the meeting with parents after the birth.
Where is the session?
The session takes place in the my photographic studio, which is located at Ármúli 15 in Reykjavik. The studio is equipped with a changing table, as well as sofa that will allow parents to look at the photographer’s work comfortably. There is a kitchen available on site.
How to prepare for the session?
It lasts a few hours, about 4-5h. Therefore, please bring some snacks with you. During the session, we take pictures with parents, so it’s good that you take some extra clothes. On the spot I have nappies and tissues, if they run out by accident, but it is worth taking your supplies.

The studio in which the session will be performed is always adequately heated, to provide a comfy atmospheree for newborn. During the session I also use a portable fan heater, which increases the temperature in the environment of the newborn baby and makes it feel very comfortable. All blankets, accessories, clothes and decorations are provided by me. I have a huge selection of accessories that are an integral part of every session. I do most of them myself, thanks to which they are unique and special. If you have any idea that you like to use while shooting, I will be happy to hear about them.
How long does the session last and how does it go?
Newborn photo shoot usually lasts from 3 to 4 hours, sometimes longer. The length of the session depends on the mood of newborn, we will have to often change dipper, feed and cuddle during photo shoot. For my part, I provide as much time as I need. The session should take place in a calm atmosphere, without hurry. The infant may be in a restless atmosphere, so it is best that only the parents of the small baby attend the session as an observers. If the session also includes photos with siblings, I will photograph them at the beginning of photo shoot and then one of parents can go with them.
Is this session safe for baby?
Safety is the foundation when working with newborns. When taking pictures, I keep watch over the safety of my model, and the positions in which it is laid are very natural for him and often resemble the placement of a baby in the mother’s belly. When taking pictures, parents often help in the session. I also completed a professional newborn photography workshops.
Are shots taken with parents and siblings during the newborn session?
Of course! I cannot imagine a newborn session without taking the baby in the arms of its parents. And photos with older siblings are one of my favorites. Before the session, please let me know how old are the children so that I can prepare myself properly.
How long we will wait for photos?
Due to quite a lot of interest in sessions with me, the waiting time is quite long. I am constantly working on shortening it, but please be patient. Currently, customers have to wait about a month for the finished gallery and a similar period of time to process the selected photos. I order all the prints and the album outside Iceland and we also have to wait a while for their delivery. Taking into account the above-mentioned interest and satisfaction of my clients, I think it is worth the wait.
